Shopify Crypto Payments: How XRPay Connects Without Shopify Payments

Shopify Crypto Checkout Integration

As Shopify merchants scale globally, they often encounter the friction points of traditional payment models: high transaction fees, rolling reserves, and chargebacks. XRPay adds external crypto payment workflows while keeping product, location, inventory, order, and refund records connected to Shopify.

XRPay is not a Shopify Payments gateway and does not appear as a native automatic tender inside Shopify checkout. Merchants use XRPay's browser POS, an external storefront payment button, or the XRPay Shopify POS tile with a merchant-configured custom payment method.

XRPay connects on-chain payments to Shopify commerce records without pretending to be a native Shopify payment gateway.

1. Legacy Gateway Friction: The Coinbase and BitPay Problem

Most e-commerce owners think integrating crypto means choosing Coinbase Commerce or BitPay. However, those products present major issues:

  • Custodial Risk: Since Coinbase's legacy product was deprecated, the platform is now fully custodial, meaning they can freeze merchant payout balances.
  • Buyer KYC Friction: BitPay mandates that customers create a "BitPay ID" and complete identity checks before buying, which dramatically tanks cart conversion rates.
  • High Pricing: Processing fees often start at 1.0% to 2.0%, on top of conversion spreads.

2. How XRPay Connects to Shopify

Merchants connect Shopify to XRPay through OAuth. XRPay then uses Shopify's Admin APIs and webhooks for the commerce data Shopify allows it to manage. The exact behavior depends on which XRPay payment path is used:

The XRPay–Shopify connection

  1. Catalog sync: XRPay imports Shopify products, variants, locations, and inventory so the merchant can sell from the XRPay browser POS.
  2. Browser POS: After an XRPay browser-POS payment is confirmed, XRPay creates a paid Shopify order at the mapped location. Shopify then applies its normal inventory adjustment for that order.
  3. Shopify POS tile: The tile confirms the XRPay payment, then the cashier selects the merchant's custom XRPay payment method and completes the Shopify sale. Shopify updates inventory, and the order webhook links the records.
  4. Refund sync: Supported refunds and restocks are reconciled between XRPay and the linked Shopify order.

The external storefront button starts an XRPay payment, but it is not a native Shopify checkout payment method and does not automatically capture Shopify tender.

3. Lower Fees and Zero Chargeback Risks

E-commerce margins are thin, especially for retail categories. XRPay provides two key financial advantages:

  • 0.5% flat transaction fees: Slashes checkout processing costs in half compared to traditional networks and legacy crypto processors.
  • No Chargebacks: Card networks allow buyers to initiate "chargeback disputes" easily. Blockchain transactions are push payments; once signed and recorded on-ledger, they are permanent and irreversible, dropping fraud rates to 0%.

4. Automated Fiat Off-Ramps for Seamless Treasuries

Merchants don't have to keep crypto on their balance sheets. XRPay's automated payout service sweeps settled on-chain tokens (including RLUSD stablecoins) directly into USD, EUR, or GBP bank accounts via Bridge.app. Payouts arrive directly via local ACH/SEPA/SWIFT, enabling standard accounting flows without manual conversion steps.

Connect Your Shopify Commerce Records

XRPay gives Shopify merchants a connected route for accepting supported crypto through XRPay-operated payment experiences. It keeps the integration honest: commerce data can sync with Shopify, while payment acceptance remains outside Shopify Payments.
