Accepting crypto payments on Shopify has historically meant installing a third-party checkout widget that takes customers off-site, requires account creation, or operates as a custodial pool. On March 31, 2026, when Coinbase Commerce discontinued self-custody checkout, Shopify merchants were left with few secure options.

Connecting an external payment service like XRPay.it gives merchants a separate route for accepting supported XRP Ledger assets. Availability and custody depend on the wallet and settlement route the merchant configures.

XRPay connects to Shopify for catalog and inventory synchronization without acting as a Shopify Payments gateway. A buyer pays through XRPay browser POS or the external storefront button by scanning a QR code and signing from their wallet. Confirmed browser-POS sales are written to Shopify as paid orders; the storefront button remains an external checkout rather than a native Shopify payment method.

Additionally, merchants can enable the automatic sweep feature. Once the payment is settled on-ledger, XRPay automatically routes the stablecoins (RLUSD or USDC) through ChangeNOW, swaps them to USDC, and sweeps the USD to your bank account via the Bridge.xyz API.
